George Floyd: Guilty verdict read as Derek Chauvin found guilty of murder – BBC News

A jury has found a former police officer guilty of murder over the death of African-American George Floyd on a Minneapolis street last year.

Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on Mr Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes during his arrest last May.

The footage sparked worldwide protests against racism and excessive use of force by police.

Chauvin was found guilty on three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Following a recommendation from prosecutors, Judge Cahill revoked Chauvin’s bail.

Watching the footage and reading the stuff l read Derek is definitely guilty , The first part that hit me was they did not explain to him why he was being stopped, the second they just dragged him out the car without proper explanation and they killed him . I understand a police officer or as a gardai you have have to use a bit of force but this was violent , the man was gasping for air and pleading for his life and so where others around him they could see he was dieing. It was also because he was black because l have never EVER heard of a white man being treated as badly as this
